Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant

These grant funds are for the purpose of: introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options to elementary school children during the school day

Applicants selected for award will create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices, expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption, and make a difference in children's diets to impact their present and future health. These grant funds are made available through the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Division of Food and Nutrition Service.

The Verndale School has been awarded $18,750.00 through the FFVP grant.  This grant allows our school to serve fresh fruits and vegetables up to 5  times per week to our elementary students during their snack breaks.  It also helps provide for hands on nutrition education in collaboration with the University of MN Extension office; Donna Anderson will visit our K-6th grade classrooms and present mini-lessons on nutrition.
