2017 Verndale Summer Programs

 

 Verndale Community Education, with the support of the Verndale Lions and City of Verndale, will be offering a summer program for our area youth.  The program will run from June 5th – July 28th, 2017.  The schedule will include a ball program, childcare, camps and a variety of other supervised activities.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact any of the listed program contacts or Amy at 445-5184, ext. 302.  PAYMENT IS DUE IN FULL BEFORE OR UPON THE START OF FIRST DAY. NO REFUNDS AFTER A STUDENT HAS STARTED ANY PROGRAM.

 

Schedule and Fees:

A schedule of all activities and fees is included in this packet for your convenience.  Any parent who is able to assist in any way is welcome to do so and is especially encouraged to be available on game days and field trip days. Our staff is responsible for notifying participants of any other events or changes to the schedule.  In case of inclement weather, summer rec will be held in the gym and Summer Pirate Fun will be in session as usual.

 

Summer Rec. Ball Teams(June 5th – July 14th) 9:00am – 12:00pm

Cost is $30.00 per child with a family cap of $75.00 per family.  There is a $35.00 fee per student and no family cap for students who do not attend the Verndale School. See attachments for ball team rules and classifications. There will be no summer rec. ball teams Tuesday, July 4th. Please make checks payable to Verndale Public School. 

 Pirate Summer Fun– (June 5th – July 28th) 7:30am – 5:00pm                      

Pirate Summer Fun will be available to all students entering kindergarten through 8th grade. During the morning, a variety of supervised activities will be available including: outside recreation, computer lab, craft activities, etc.  Pirate Summer Fun will run concurrently with the summer rec program.  If enrolled in summer rec, students will be released from activity areas five minutes before their practice starts. All enrolled students will be able to take part in the summer food program. There will be no Pirate Summer Fun Tuesday, July 4th. Payments must be submitted by the first day of each session.Please make checks payable to Verndale Public School. 

Session 1: June 5th, 2017 – June 16th, 2017

Session 2: June 19th, 2017 – June 30th, 2017

Session 3: July 3rd, 2017 – July 14th, 2017 (not in session July 4th)

Session 4: July 17th, 2017 – July 28th, 2017

Block 1: 7:30am – 9:00am - $28.00 per Verndale student - $33.00 per non Verndale student

Block 2: 9:00am – 12:00pm - $37.50 per Verndale student - $42.50 per non Verndale student

Block 3: 12:00pm – 2:30pm - $37.50 per Verndale student - $42.50 per non Verndale student

Block 4: 2:30pm – 5:00pm - $37.50 per Verndale student - $42.50 per non Verndale student

Family Cap: Maximum family cap of $255.00 per session per family for students attending Verndale School. There is no family cap for those who do not attend Verndale School.

Tartgeted Services – (July 5th – July 28th)

A Targeted Service program will be offered free of charge to those students entering 1st – 8th grade in the 2017-2018 school year. It will be available from July 5th – July 28th.There will be no Targeted Services Tuesday, July 4th.

Band Lessons– (August 14th – August 25th

Free band lessons will be available this summer to all Verndale band students. Lessons will run for two weeks Monday-Friday, August 14th-25th. This is an excellent opportunity to address individual needs to further your musical skills and abilities. These lessons are highly recommended for beginners!  To sign up your student, please contact Stephanie Brownlow, 218-445-5184, ext. 194.

 Swimming lessons will again be available through the Staples Community Center for Levels 1-6. We will be offering 2 different sessions this year.

Session 1: June 12th – June 23rd, 2017 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Session 2:July 10th – July 21st, 2017 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Cost of the lessons will be $45.00 per child per session for those students attending Verndale School with a family cap of $105.00. There is a $50.00 fee per student and no family cap for students who do nto attend the Verndale Public School. The cost includes transportation from Verndale School. Buses will leave ½ hour before lessons and return ½ hour after.  Each level in each session will consist of ONLY 10 STUDENTS. Your child’s spot will be reserved when payment is received in the District Office – Please check with Amy for openings.We need one parent per day to volunteer to ride the bus, do student counts and check the locker rooms. Youth Football  Clinic– (July 24th & 25th) 10:30am – 12:00pm

Football Clinic – (July 24th – July 28th) 8:00am - 10:00am

Summer Food Program(June 5th – July 28th)

A summer food program will be provided free of charge to anyone up to 18 years of age.  It will be available from June 5th through July 28th, 2017.  Serving time will be from 11:00am – 12:30pm.  There will be no summer food service Tuesday, July 4th.

 

Summer Theatre(July 10th – July 15th)

All community members are welcome to join us for the 2017 production of Pinocchio.  Verndale Summer Theatre along with Prairie Fire Children’s theatre will work with our actors for one week and then we will have two performances.  It is truly amazing how much we can accomplish in just one week! Students 1st grade – 12th grade and all adults are eligible to participate. Summer Theatre will be the week of July 10th – July 15th with practice times starting at 12:30pm each day. A practice schedule will be given to your child on Monday for the rest of the week’s practice times. If you have any questions please contact Becky Ludovissie (218) 445-5184. Drivers Education (July 10th – July 14th and July 24th – July 28th)   12:30pm – 3:30pm

We are excited this year to partner with A+ Driving School for drivers education classroom instruction and behind the wheel (BTW) instruction. A parent meeting will be held Monday, June 19th from 5-7pm. Each student must complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of BTW instruction. Classroom sessions will be held Monday - Friday, July 10th – July 14th and July 24th – July 28th from 12:30pm – 3:30pm. BTW instruction will be scheduled with the instructor after classroom instruction is finished. The total fee for classroom and BTW will be $300.00. Payment must be paid directly to A+ Driving School at http://aplusdrivingschool.net/

 

 

Shooting Camp for Boys/Girls Basketball players in grades 6-11  (June 30th) 8:00am – 12:30pm

The 2017 camp will have an extreme emphasis on making powerful offensive moves and being an explosive shooter. Mike will utilize drills and equipment to expand any player’s offensive skill set and shooting consistency. His goal is to provide players with drills and skills that will help them become the offensive threat that their team needs in the upcoming season. Mike will focus on individual player improvement for players of all ages. Jam packed with drills that focus on shooting form, balance, shot preparation, creating space, shot speed, developing a shooter’s mentality. Mike Felt was a 4 year starter at Redwood Falls, MN. He continued his basketball career at NDSU where he shot 83% from the free throw line and 40% from 3-point range.

Grade: Boys and Girls grades 6-11.
